What happens when I become a playtester?

  • We specialise in testing games with children aged 16 and under. We will need a parent or carer to give permission.

  • If you are selected as a playtester, we will arrange a time to come to film you playing the game. This may be at your house or another location.

  • We will ask some questions about how you are finding the game - remember, you can’t get it wrong, you’re the expert!

  • It usually takes about 1.5 hours in total.

  • A parent must be present at all times.

  • A parent will be asked to sign a form giving permission for the filming of their child - this film will be shared with the game producers and brand owners.

  • There is usually a payment as a thank you for your time.

Who are we looking for?

  • We need all levels of gamers from beginners up to experienced players.

  • You can be from any background - everyone is welcome to apply!

  • We are currently recruiting for playtesters aged 3-17 in west London and Brighton.

  • You may not get selected for a while if we don’t have the right game for your age range.

  • Please note, we will never share your details with anyone else. You can ask to have your information deleted from our list at any time.

Parents’ testimonials

“Olivia has play tested some games with my two daughters in our home, and it was a very enjoyable and memorable experience for my girls. They felt genuinely valued and listened to throughout the session, and they both still talk about it fondly.

It was a lovely opportunity for them to be involved in something creative, and we really appreciated the professionalism Olivia brought to the session.”

— Michael, dad to two girls age 7 and 9

“Olivia was brilliant at putting my children at ease straight away. They were super excited to play the game and Olivia was really patient helping show them how to work the controllers to jump and move. The kids loved the whole experience and I'd have no hesitation recommending other families to do research with Olivia."

— Alex, mum to kids aged 7, 6 and 3

“My 7-year-old daughter really enjoyed testing out the games. She said that Becky was “very kind and fun”. Becky made us feel at ease, explaining how it all worked and listening attentively to my daughter’s views and feedback. The games were age-appropriate and suited to her interests. My daughter is always asking when she can do it again!"

— Suzie, Mum to 7-year-old girl

“My 5 year old LOVED her Playtest Games experience. The person running the testing, was lovely. She came to our home with all the equipment, and an understanding manner. My daughter had a great time playing the game and answering questions, she wanted to keep going at the end of the session. We all felt comfortable at having this happen in our home and my daughter was super chuffed to get some money for playing a game! I have recommended this to friends, some of whom have reported back similarly positive experiences.”

— Mum of 3 girls

“My children really enjoyed their visit from Olivia at Playtest Games to test a new fantasy game. I'd been a little worried as my son is autistic and can struggle with new people but Olivia made him feel really comfortable from the get-go. Both my children felt so excited to be able to play the game before its release and being able to give feedback that could influence the final version. They now tell me that they are game testers and are incredibly proud of having had the opportunity to test a game.

It's been a lovely experience and I'd recommend any parent to allow their children to try it, even if you're a bit of a dinosaur like me and you don't really understand any of it.”

— Anthony, dad to twins age 11

“A the end of each session Olivia is really interested in my opinion and explains what to do throughout the session. She is very kind and we are so lucky to have been a part of the testing it is so much fun.”

“Olivia brings over some really good games for me to have a go and play. I get to try learning new games it’s brilliant I wish I could do more!”
